A hardwood activity table for kids, sized to last from toddler through grade school. The Ernst family has been finishing these by the Ernst family since 1992, and many are still in daycare service twenty years later.
This is a single hardwood table that does four jobs and grows with the child.
Grows with the kid. Starts at 19″ tabletop height, the right height for a 2-3 year old standing or sitting on the floor. When the child gets taller, swap in a 24″ or 30″ leg kit. Same table, same tabletop, just longer legs. The set typically lasts from toddler through grade school, and we have customers using their tables as adult dining surfaces with the dining topper twenty-five years in.
Four configurations from one frame. Drop in Nilo baseplates and it is a Lego or Duplo table. Pull them out and it is a flat play surface for trains, art, or puzzles. Add the dining topper and it is a coffee or full-size dining table. The accessory ecosystem is designed around this single frame.
Two-sided tabletop. If one side stains or marks up over the years, slide it out, flip it, slide it back in. New surface. Most customers do not need to flip until the table is well into its second decade.
Table Frame. Solid hardwood with a dado joint that sandwiches the tabletop into the frame for added rigidity. L-shaped legs are also solid hardwood, secured with 1/4″ bolts and 6mm corner screws.
Tabletop. Single-piece white melamine surface, not split like cheaper tables. Recessed 1 1/4″ inside the frame border so blocks, train tracks, and small parts stay on the table. Two-sided. Slide out and flip if one side gets damaged.
Tabletop Height. 19″ from the floor at default. The 1 1/4″ recessed border is calibrated for wooden train track: standard track is 1/2″ thick, leaving 3/4″ of raised wall above the track when laid flat. Most other tables use 1/2″ or 2 1/2″ borders, neither of which works for trains.
Family-run since 1992. The Ernst family has been finishing these tables by the Ernst family for 34 years. Tabletops, packaging, and foam protection family-built since 1992. Frames imported from Thailand. Final assembly, finishing, and quality control all happen by the Ernst family.
The Nilo activity table becomes a Lego or Duplo table by dropping in our double-sided baseplates. Each baseplate is two-sided. One side is sized for Duplo studs, the other side is sized for Lego bricks. Flip the baseplate, switch the build.
Baseplates are removable. Two pounds each. Lift them out to clean the tabletop, or to put away an in-progress build to come back to later. Most plastic Lego tables glue the baseplate down, which means you cannot clean under it and you cannot save a build.
If your child starts with Duplo at age 2 and moves to Lego at age 5, the same baseplates work for both. You do not need to buy separate Lego and Duplo tables.
Pair the activity table with the Nilo dining topper and the same frame becomes a coffee table or a dining table. The topper has a tongue-and-groove joint to keep spills out of the play surface underneath, and toggle latches to lock the two halves together.
Add the 30″ leg upgrade if you want it at full dining height. This is how customers keep these tables in service for years.
This SKU is the with-holes version. The framing has holes that accept Nilo’s add-on toys: the Slide Hammer ‘N Nails construction set, Nilo-Jax wooden train trestles, Rok-Jax, Rokenbok, and Fiddlestix.
The without-holes version is a cleaner outer frame. It is the right pick if you do not plan to use the hole-based accessories and prefer a smooth border.
Both versions use the same frame, same tabletop, same hardwood. Choose by accessory plan, not by quality.

Yes. The Large table is at standard play-table height and easily seats 4-6 kids and 2 adults for crafts, snacks, or family game time.
The outer footprint is 48″ × 36″ with a 2.5″-deep recessed play surface. Plan on 24″ of clearance on each seating side for chairs to slide back.
The accessory holes accept Nilo-Nails, dowels, and pegged toys (Toy Slide Hammer ‘N Nails Set, etc.). The recessed vault catches loose pieces. Best for ages 4+ and households that already use peg-style toys.
Wipe the melamine surface with a damp cloth. Crayon, marker, glue and most kid messes come right off. The hardwood frame takes a standard furniture polish once a year if you want to refresh it.

Yes. The standard table height is sized so adults can sit on the floor or on a low stool with knees comfortably under the apron. For longer adult-side use, our optional taller leg kits raise the table to a homework-desk height that fits standard chairs. We’ve sold leg kits to parents, teachers, and grandparents who use the same table for craft time, homework help, or board games.

Approximately 12 years ago, we purchased our NILO table and the storage bin.
Both items still remain in the household, as sturdy as the day they were shipped to us. Both items survived 3 children, their friends, and a few dogs jumping up to steal a snack.
The table had many uses- it was an art table, a homework table, a Saturday morning cereal eating table.
Of course, the white top has a few stains on it, signs of use after 12 years. However, it did its purpose above and beyond what we intended it to do. The table is in many pictures of my children growing up.
If you are in the fence about investing in a NILO, don’t be- it will last! You will get your money’s worth!
