A solid hardwood gaming table sized for board games, RPGs, and puzzles. 32″ x 48″ recessed vault, seats six, family-run in Vista, since 1992.

Nilo Game Table, solid hardwood board gaming table with recessed vault

Key Benefits

Dimensions and fit

Outer footprint 34″ W × 50″ L × 30 1/4″ H
Recessed playing surface 32″ W × 48″ L (1 1/4″ vault)
Seats 6
Frame 5″ thick solid hardwood, dado-jointed
Load tested Tabletop tested past 400 lb without failure
Shipping weight 60 lb

This is the entry-tier of Nilo’s gaming line. A 32″ x 48″ vault is the right size for most published board games, a four-to-six player D&D session, or a 1,000-piece puzzle without overflow.

  • Recessed vault keeps pieces on the table. The 1 1/4″ lip is calibrated for dice, cards, miniatures, and puzzle pieces. Deep enough to contain a knocked drink edge, shallow enough that you can still reach across the table without the rim getting in the way.
  • Double-sided tabletop. The play surface slides out and flips. If one side marks up after a few years of game nights, you flip it and keep going. Most owners do not need to flip until well into the second decade.
  • Felt mat fits the vault. Drop the Nilo felt gaming mat into the recess and the surface becomes a soft, card-friendly playing field. Neoprene-backed so it stays flat. Lifts out when you want the bare wood back.

Construction & Materials

Frame. 5″ thick solid hardwood, dado-jointed. The dado groove sandwiches the tabletop into the frame for rigidity. We have load-tested the tabletop to over 400 lb without failure. We do not recommend putting that much weight on it, but the headroom is there.

Tabletop. Double-sided. Slide it out, flip it over, slide it back in. New surface. The recess is 1 1/4″ deep, sized to hold dice and small game components without letting them migrate off the edge.

Finish. Solvent-based polyurethane, fully cured before the table ships. Polyurethane is the same finish used on hardwood floors and dining tables. Once cured, it holds up to spills, scrubbing, and direct sunlight without yellowing. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Family-run since 1992. The Ernst family has been finishing and quality-checking Nilo tables in their Vista, California workshop for 34 years. Final assembly, finish, and inspection all happen in Vista.

Recessed Vault

The vault is the defining feature of a board gaming table. A flat dining surface lets dice roll off, cards slide onto the floor, and puzzle pieces disappear under the rug. The 1 1/4″ recess on the Nilo Game Table contains all of that and gives the felt mat a place to sit flush.

We have tested vault depths from 1/2″ to 3″ across the gaming line. 1 1/4″ is the right balance for most board games and puzzles: deep enough to contain components, shallow enough that you are not reaching down into a pit.

Color Options

Two finishes: natural clear coat (shows the wood grain) or dark walnut (matches darker game-room furniture). Same price either way. Pick by what fits your room.

Accessories

Built around the same frame:

  • Dining topper covers the vault to protect a paused game or puzzle, or converts the table into a dining surface for the rest of the evening. Current design is 4-piece (stores in the dining top accessory holder). Slight groove between each of the 4 leafs.
  • Felt gaming mat is a soft playing surface that fits inside the vault. Available in red, gray, or green (not all colors offered in every size). Neoprene-backed so it stays put.
  • Roll-out felt topper is an alternate felt option that fits the recessed surface. Thick neoprene backing. Available in blue, red, green, and light gray.
  • Cup holders keep drinks off the play surface and free up room for components.
  • Wine glass holders are the same family as cup holders, sized for stemware.
  • Flip shelf has three trays for game pieces and two curved card slots that hide your hand from across the table. Flips over to a flat shelf surface.
  • Graphic mat is a printed mat that fits the vault. Also fits the large Nilo children’s play table if you have one in the family.
  • Dining top accessory holder is felt-lined storage for the dining topper leaves and other accessories. Available in clear coat and dark walnut.

What is a board gaming table?

The difference between a dining table and a board gaming table is the recessed vault. The recess keeps dice, cards, miniatures, and puzzle pieces on the table instead of in your lap or on the floor. Add a felt mat and cards slide cleanly across the surface, picking them up gets easier, and the table sounds quieter when components hit it.

The Nilo Game Table is the entry-tier of our gaming line. If you mainly play published board games, run weekly RPG sessions, or work on puzzles, this size handles it.

Common questions

Will it work for D&D and longer game sessions?

Yes. The Gamer is designed for 4-6 player games up to 8+ hours. Solid hardwood frame, recessed vault for the map and minis, cup holders keep drinks off the play surface.

How much room does it need?

Outer footprint is 50″ × 36″. Plan on 30″ of seating clearance for chair pull-back on each player side.

Can it double as a dining table?

Yes. Add the dining topper accessory and you get a flat hardwood dining surface that stows the active game underneath.

What if a part arrives damaged?

Email support@nilotoys.com with a photo within 7 days of delivery and we’ll ship a replacement free.

What’s the real return process?

Hardwood furniture is heavy and shipping it back is expensive. Once the table is assembled, all sales are final. Before assembly, contact support, we’ll work through case-by-case options. Return freight is the customer’s responsibility.

Which accessories fit this table?

Gaming toppers, dining topper, cup holders, leg kits, matching stools. See the compatibility section.

Can adults sit comfortably at the table?

Yes. The standard table height is sized so adults can sit on the floor or on a low stool with knees comfortably under the apron. For longer adult-side use, our optional taller leg kits raise the table to a homework-desk height that fits standard chairs. We’ve sold leg kits to parents, teachers, and grandparents who use the same table for craft time, homework help, or board games.

Is this table appropriate for a classroom or daycare?

Yes. Nilo tables have been used in classrooms, daycares, Montessori schools, and homeschool co-ops for over 30 years. The hardwood frame holds up to climbing, daily cleaning, and multi-child use. We ship same-day Monday-Thursday by 3pm PT, and damaged-on-arrival parts are replaced free. For volume orders, email support@nilotoys.com or call 800-872-6456.

  1. Patrick

I was looking around for an inexpensive, smaller game table for our loft area and was having no luck cobbling stuff together when I stumbled on the Nilo Gamer Table. I only wish I had found it sooner. Made from good material (solid edge glued boards) and very sturdy. Everything went together in about 30-45 minutes with most of the time spent tightening bolts down. I was worried that the dark walnut stain might scratch easily but so far, it’s held up really well. I got it with cup holders and flip board and the metal hooks have felt padding all along the insides so you don’t scratch your side rails , a real nice touch.

The felt mat is good quality , easy to pick up cards, roll dice, etc. If you held me down and made me whine about something, I wish it was 36″x48″ instead of 32″x48″ so it would accommodate some popular aftermarket playmats that are out there but the play area is perfect for all but the largest games. Can’t recommend it enough!
